Thousands thronged the Sreemahadevar Temple at Thirunakkara to witness the Thirunakkara Pakal Pooram, bringing the spirit of Thirussur Pooram to this Central Travancore town on Saturday. The day began with the arrival of Cherupoorams to the Sreemahadevar Temple. This was followed by the arrival of the 22 caparisoned elephants which were blessed by the priests. The pakal pooram follows the traditional conventions of Thrissur pooram with the 22 elephants being paraded in two groups at the eastern and western end of the temple grounds. Adding to the gaiety was the percussion performance by Mattannur Sankarankutty Marrar and his team. The pooram entered its high point with the kudamattom performance and concluded with a pyrotechnic display in the night.
