Thuruthithara, rowed by Kumarakom Village Boat club, came first in the Iruttukuthi Grade A category and bagged the K.R. Narayanan Memorial ever-rolling trophy at the second Kodoor River Boat Race held at Kollad near here on Sunday. Captained by K.A. Kuruvilla, the team defeated Dayi Number 2 to take the top spot in the competition organised by the Kollad Boat Club.
Winners: Neelamperoor Daniel, rowed by Punackal Chungam Boat Club and captained by Shaji Cheriyeckal, topped the Iruttukuthi Grade B category. Other winners in the competition were Chiramel Thottukadavan, rowed by Gurudhrushnam Boat Club and captained by K. Kuttan (Veppu Grade B); Venghal Puthenveedu, rowed by Nattakom Boat Club and captained by Omanakuttan (Churulan Grade A).
Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan inaugurated the competition earlier in the evening. Kollad Boat Club president Jimmy George presided over the inaugural session.
Jose K. Mani, MP, Kottayam Municipal chairman Sunny Kalloor, V.N. Vasavan, former MLA; and K.R. Narayanan Foundation chairman Uzhavoor Vijayan spoke on the occasion.
